TikTok has taken down 2.4 million videos posted by Nigerian users in the fourth quarter of 2024 for violating its content policy.
Nigeria was among the top 50 countries where videos violating TikTok’s policies originated. Globally, the platform removed a whopping 153 million videos, with the United States recording the highest number of violations at 8.5 million videos removed.
The top 50 markets, including Nigeria, accounted for approximately 90% of all content removals for the quarter.
The removed content violated one or more of TikTok’s policies, which focus on integrity, authenticity, privacy, security, mental health, safety, and civility.
In addition to removing videos, TikTok also took down 211.5 million accounts that were either fake or owned by users under 13 years old.
Fake accounts made up the largest number of deleted accounts, with 185.3 million removed. Another 20.5 million accounts were removed for being owned by users under 13, while 5.6 million accounts were removed for other reasons.
TikTok remains vigilant in detecting external threats and safeguarding the platform from fake accounts and engagement. The company updated its classification of fake likes and followers in Q4 2024, contributing to an increase in reported metrics.
