Mohbad’s Wife Speaks Out on His Tragic Death and Controversy Surrounding His Burial and Legacy

Posted on February 25, 2025

Wunmi Aloba, the wife of late Nigerian musician Mohbad, has broken her silence on his tragic death, expressing her deep pain and revealing shocking details surrounding his burial and the ongoing controversy over his legacy.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Pidgin, Wunmi recounted the heartbreaking moments leading up to Mohbad’s passing, stating that it felt like a victory for some people. She described how her husband fought to stay alive but tragically lost his battle.

Wunmi addressed the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s burial, revealing that it was his father, Joseph Aloba, who decided to bury him the day after his passing, despite pleas from others to delay the burial. The body was later exhumed for further investigation.

Wunmi denied claims that she had known Naira Marley, the CEO of Marlian Records, before he signed Mohbad. She clarified that she had never met Naira Marley before Mohbad signed with Marlian Records.

Regarding the demand for a DNA test on her son, Wunmi stated that she has always been open to it. However, she claimed that her father-in-law has not taken the necessary steps to facilitate the test. Legal proceedings are underway to obtain a court order allowing for a DNA test using a sample from Mohbad’s remains.

Mohbad’s death sparked widespread outrage in Nigeria, with calls for justice amid allegations that he faced bullying, harassment, and assault while signed to Marlian Records. Wunmi’s interview has shed new light on the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death and legacy, and many are eagerly awaiting justice for the late musician.
