DSS Arrests Ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami After Kuje Prison Release

Posted on January 19, 2026

it was gathered that Malami was arrested shortly after leaving Kuje Correctional Centre, having fulfilled the bail conditions granted to him by a Federal High Court.

The former minister is reportedly facing a fresh investigation by the secret police. Sources said the development is linked to the discovery of arms at his country home in Kebbi State during a recent search conducted by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

A Federal High Court on Wednesday granted Malami, his wife and his son bail in the sum of ₦500 million each, with two sureties.

However, in a statement earlier issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, the former Attorney-General alleged that the DSS was planning to re-arrest him from Kuje Prison. He claimed that operatives of the agency were already carrying out surveillance around the correctional facility.

According to the statement, Malami had met all the bail conditions before being taken into custody by DSS operatives.

As of the time of filing this report, the DSS has yet to officially comment on the arrest or the nature of the fresh probe.
