US Congressman Riley Moore has said President Donald Trump is committed to stopping the killing of Christians in Nigeria, stressing that recent US air strikes were aimed at weakening terrorist groups responsible for such attacks.
Moore, a member of the US House of Representatives, said the bombardment of terrorist targets was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian government and was intended to help protect civilians, particularly Christian communities.
“This was done in coordination with the Nigerian government, and that is very important to note. This was not a unilateral action by the United States. We are working with Nigeria to help secure the country and end the killing of Christians,” Moore said in a post on X.
On Christmas Day, the United States carried out air strikes on two terrorist enclaves in the Bauni forest, located in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to Moore, Christian communities in Nigeria have come under repeated attacks by terrorists during the Christmas season over the past two years. He said the latest military action was a response to those attacks.
Sharing a clip from his interview on Fox News, the lawmaker said the air strikes, conducted jointly with the Nigerian government, were designed to “end the slaughter of Christians in Nigeria.”
He added that President Trump has made the issue a clear priority, describing the operation as a significant first step toward addressing the violence.
Moore also noted that previous Christmas periods had witnessed deadly attacks on Christians in Nigeria, but said the situation was different this year.
“The tables have turned this time. The Islamic terrorists were the ones on the receiving end,” he said.
The congressman further claimed that critics of the air strikes were motivated by political considerations, alleging they were seeking to appeal to radical Islamist supporters.
