The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect, Amadin Williams, in connection with the alleged murder of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osas.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the arrest on Sunday, stating that the suspect would be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the victim had recently returned from abroad with his family to celebrate the Christmas holidays. He was reportedly attacked and killed in Oben community, where he had attended a housewarming party.
A source said the deceased was allegedly assaulted by his childhood friend under circumstances that are yet to be determined. The incident was said to have occurred while the victim stepped out briefly during the gathering.
Confirming the development, the police spokesperson said the case was reported by the victim’s elder brother. She explained that preliminary investigations revealed the victim was attacked while alone, sustaining fatal injuries. The suspect reportedly fled the scene but was later arrested in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
“The report of the murder is true. The suspect, who is believed to be a childhood friend of the deceased, has been arrested. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as it is concluded,” Ikoedem said.
Meanwhile, the police recalled a similar incident in June, when a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, was arrested in connection with the death of his 21-year-old girlfriend, Osato Festus Edogiaweria, who was declared missing in April 2025.
Police investigations into that case commenced after the victim’s mother reported her missing at the Aduwawa Police Division on April 25, 2025.
