Lere Olayinka, a media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has offered an explanation for what he described as the breakdown in the relationship between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and President Bola Tinubu.
Olayinka’s comments followed Makinde’s remarks during a media interaction with selected journalists in Ibadan on Tuesday, where the governor declared that he would not support Tinubu’s bid for a second term. Makinde also accused Wike of working to undermine the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in favour of the president and suggested he could even contest against Tinubu in 2027.
In response, Olayinka took to Facebook to allege that Makinde’s stance was driven by disappointment over his ministerial nominee from Oyo State not being approved by the president. According to him, the governor’s attitude towards Tinubu would have been different had his nominee been appointed and included in the federal cabinet.
Olayinka argued that Makinde would still be openly praising the president if his preferred candidate had secured a ministerial slot, insisting that the rejection of the nominee was the real source of the fallout.
