Lafia — Suspected armed herdsmen attacked Agboda community in Mararaba Udege, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Monday evening, injuring a man with a machete while he was on his way to a church crusade, causing the event to be abruptly halted.
Dr. Daniel Ukpo, the crusade organiser, told reporters that the attack occurred between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., sending villagers fleeing for safety. The victim, a local youth riding a motorcycle, was attacked and robbed of his bike. News of the assault sparked panic among those attending the crusade, forcing the gathering to end prematurely.
Ukpo lamented the frequent attacks by herdsmen in the Mararaba Udege axis, highlighting the lack of security presence. “People are being killed on the roads, in farms, and these incidents often go unreported. The killings are alarming, and the government must intervene,” he said.
Recalling previous incidents, Ukpo said he had been warned by local traditional rulers about the ongoing threats. “Herdsmen are destroying crops, killing residents, and even stopping our church events. The people are exhausted but have nowhere else to go, leaving them vulnerable,” he added.
The attack underscores the persistent insecurity in parts of Nasarawa State, where armed herdsmen continue to terrorize communities with minimal intervention.
