President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed optimism that Nigeria will rise above its present challenges and achieve its full potential as a nation.
Akpabio gave the assurance on Sunday while representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at a special interdenominational service held at the National Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
Delivering the president’s message, Akpabio emphasised unity as the bedrock of national progress and urged citizens to support government policies for the good of the country.
“The President has asked me to let you know that the principal word for this 65th anniversary is unity. Nigeria must remain united. The foes you see today, you shall soon see them no more. There is no need to hate one another. Let love lead, for we are all one. If we unite, there is nothing we cannot achieve,” he said.
Quoting Psalm 46, the Senate President noted that despite daunting challenges, Nigeria has remained resilient and firmly under God’s guidance.
He pledged continued commitment to national prosperity, peace, and stability, expressing confidence that the difficulties confronting the country will soon be a thing of the past.
“For us, we will continue to work towards the prosperity of the country. It is our turn to light the torch of progress, unity, and peace. Yes, there are challenges, but I believe that the foes you see today, you will see them no more,” he added.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, also delivered goodwill messages at the event, both underscoring the need for unity and collective effort in nation-building.
