Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that a senior military officer was ordered to assassinate him during the 2019 general elections.
Wike, speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, claimed the directive came from the then Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
The former Rivers State governor alleged that the officer, identified as General Saham, who served as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, was promised the position of Chief of Staff if he carried out the order.
“General Saham ordered that I should be shot as a sitting governor. When the Colonel refused to carry it out, he was detained for six months,” Wike said.
He further noted that some opposition governors now lamenting harassment never experienced the level of threats he faced while in office.
Wike added that his refusal to visit the National Security Adviser’s office was because of General Saham’s current role there.
