PORT HARCOURT — Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday resumed duty at the Government House, Port Harcourt, following the expiration of the six-month Emergency Rule imposed on the state by President Bola Tinubu on March 18.
Fubara, who arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at about 11:40 a.m., was accompanied by his wife, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, Chief of Staff Edison Ehie, and other top aides. He was warmly received by former commissioners, local government chairmen, and political leaders.
Addressing supporters at the Government House, the governor expressed gratitude to Rivers people for their overwhelming show of love and solidarity during his absence.
“I know everybody wants to hear something from me. In fact, I expected it when I landed. Let me first of all appreciate the wonderful people of Rivers State. I was really humbled by the reception I received at the airport and by the photographs I saw of yesterday’s events. It shows love, confidence and solidarity,” he said.
Fubara described the warm welcome as a reaffirmation of the bond between his administration and the people, promising to sustain the delivery of governance that has earned their support.
“We will, by the grace of God, continue to give those things that made you people love us. I want to thank everybody and to say that we love you, but God loves you more,” the governor added.
He is expected to formally address the state at 6 p.m. today.
