Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has said that equity and fairness demand that the party’s 2027 presidential ticket be micro-zoned to the Southeast.
Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television on Friday, Ulasi noted that while the PDP has already zoned the presidency to the South, sincerity within the party should compel leaders to further narrow the slot to the Southeast, which remains the only southern region yet to produce a president in the current democratic dispensation.
“The party has zoned the presidency to the South, and if there is honesty, they should micro-zone it to the Southeast. We are the only zone, theoretically speaking, that has not produced the presidency in this dispensation—and the Northeast too,” he said.
When asked to comment on potential candidates for the 2027 elections, Ulasi declined to speculate, saying only God can determine the outcome.
“I’ll answer that question by telling you that only God will answer it. Only God knows who will be alive tomorrow morning,” he remarked.
Despite lingering uncertainties, Ulasi expressed optimism about the PDP’s future, citing efforts by its leaders to reposition the party.
“At the last national executive meeting, almost seven of our governors were present. It was refreshing to see everyone discussing how to reorganize the party and place it on a stronger footing for 2027 and future elections,” he added.
His comments come as PDP leaders intensify moves to woo former President Goodluck Jonathan and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to contest on the party’s platform in 2027.
