Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has raised concerns that fuel from the Dangote Refinery sells at a lower price in Togo than in Nigeria.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Falana criticized the federal government’s plan to introduce a 5 per cent fuel surcharge, warning that it would worsen the economic burden on Nigerians.
“The government needs to return to the drawing board to avoid being accused of multiple or double taxation. Nigerians already pay VAT on fuel purchases, and adding another 5 per cent surcharge will only deepen public complaints,” he said.
Falana noted that the disparity in pricing was disturbing. “From reports today, Dangote fuel is about ₦65 cheaper in Togo than in Nigeria. The government must urgently review these developments to prevent further hardship on citizens,” he added.
