Residents of Lakowe’s Orita Adeba community and Sangotedo, Lagos State, were thrown into mourning over the weekend after two young men were brutally killed in separate suspected cult-related attacks.
The incidents, believed to be reprisals, add to a wave of cult clashes that have left several casualties across the state in recent weeks.
A viral video from Lakowe showed one of the victims—dressed in brown shorts, a white vest, and wearing dreadlocks—lying face-up in a pool of blood as shocked residents and mourners gathered around.
A resident, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed that the victim was hacked with machetes and left by the roadside. He alleged that the assailants also severed the victim’s right wrist and fled with it.
“It is true. It happened yesterday. They left the body at Orita Adeba, opposite Lakowe Bus Stop. We can no longer sleep at night. We learnt that the Aye cult group killed him. His wrist was totally cut off. They have been killing each other to settle scores for weeks now,” the resident said.
Similarly, in Sangotedo, another young man was found dead, dressed in a white singlet and black trousers. A video shared on the Naija Confra Telegram page showed his lifeless body by the roadside.
As of press time, the police had yet to issue an official statement on the killings.
