Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has said political power will shift back to the North after President Bola Tinubu completes his second term in 2031.
Speaking during an interview on TVC, Bago urged northerners with presidential ambitions to exercise patience until then.
“When he (Tinubu) completes his eight years, power will come to the North. Northerners who want to contest can then do so,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed Niger State’s unwavering support for Tinubu, stressing that the state stands solidly behind the president without internal opposition.
Bago also emphasized the importance of upholding the rotational arrangement between the North and South, describing it as vital to national stability.
“In Niger State, there is no dissenting voice. Nigeria is peaceful today because we have agreed to a rotation in governance—eight years for the North, eight years for the South,” he explained.
“President Tinubu has only spent two years in office, and some people are already calling for power to return to the North. That is not the way. We will continue to support him,” he added.
