The Dangote Refinery will launch its long-awaited free fuel distribution scheme on Monday, according to a statement from the company’s spokesman, Anthony Chiejina.
The initiative will begin in Lagos, the South-West region, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo States. Alongside the programme, the refinery has also announced a reduction in petrol pump prices—N841 per litre in Lagos and the South-West, and N851 per litre in Abuja, Edo, Kwara, Rivers, and Delta.
Chiejina explained that the free fuel rollout, initially scheduled for August, was delayed due to logistics issues in China. He confirmed that the refinery has now taken delivery of over 1,000 trucks to enable the commencement of the scheme.
More states are expected to join the programme as additional trucks arrive. To strengthen its distribution network, Dangote said it has embarked on a nationwide deployment of CNG-powered trucks aimed at cutting logistics costs.
“Despite the recent doubling of CNG prices, we remain committed to our target of rolling out 10,000 CNG trucks this year,” the company noted.
