Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has announced plans to cook what she hopes will become the world’s largest pot of jollof rice, a challenge that will require an astonishing 250 bags of rice.
Baci, who gained global recognition in 2023 for setting the record for the longest cooking marathon, revealed the ambitious project in a video posted on Instagram on Monday.
According to her, a specially designed pot with a capacity of 22,619 litres has been created for the feat, and her goal is to fill it up to at least 75–80 per cent.
“To achieve that, I’ll need about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice,” she explained, noting that the calculation translates to 264 bags of rice. “But I’ve made the executive decision to settle on 250 bags.”
The celebrity chef also detailed the massive quantities of condiments required for the cooking, highlighting that the project will demand over 1,500 kilogrammes of tomato paste.
“For one kilogramme of rice, you need between 0.20 and 0.35 of tomato paste. Since it’s Nigerian jollof, I’ll be using 0.30. That means 1,583 kilogrammes of Gino tomato paste,” she said.
Baci added that the tomato base would be blended with pepper chicken paste and jollof paste to deliver what she described as “the most delicious, largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice you have ever tasted.”
