Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has declared that all governors from the South-East are solidly behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Umahi made the statement in a video shared on Sunday by @peopleofebonyi_ via Instagram.
According to him, governors in the region are united in their support for the president, stressing that each state’s leadership is working in alignment.
“All the governors of the South-East are supporting President Tinubu for 2027. There is no governor in the region that is not with him. Look at Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, and Imo—you can clearly see what each governor is doing. We are confident that we’ll write our own history,” Umahi said.
Speaking on his political future, Umahi maintained that he deserves a leading role when power eventually shifts to the South-East, citing his records as both governor and minister.
“When the presidency comes to the South-East, I should be at the forefront because of my performance. I have challenged anyone who feels otherwise to a debate. I created something out of Ebonyi State, and God used me to achieve it,” he asserted.
Umahi further stated that his track record stands out when compared with others in the region.
“We compare governor to governor, time to time, and measure what we have contributed to the South-East. I beat my chest to say that God has used me—and President Tinubu has also used me—to improve the fortunes of our people. It has been a long time since we had it this good,” he added.
Advising the region on its path to producing a president, Umahi cautioned against relying on emotions.
“My advice is that our people must re-engage. We cannot get the presidency by sentiment; we must build alliances and support other regions. At the appointed time, it will come to us. And who knows? When that time comes, it could be the man standing here as minister that will lead the way,” he said.
