At least six students of the Nigerian Law School have been abducted by suspected gunmen while traveling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Yola, Adamawa State.
The incident reportedly occurred late Saturday, July 26, as the students were on their way back to the Yola campus following a court externship break. The campus is scheduled to resume academic activities on Monday, July 28.
Confirming the development to our source on Sunday, a fellow student, Damilare Adenola, said the victims were seized by armed bandits while making their way back to school.
“Six students of the Nigerian Law School have been reportedly kidnapped by suspected armed bandits while traveling to resume school after their court externship break,” Adenola said.
Some of the missing students have been identified as Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David.
According to reports, the abduction took place along a stretch of road between Wukari in Taraba State and a part of Benue State—a corridor notorious for insecurity and frequent attacks on commuters.
A student leader at the Yola campus, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, confirmed that the matter has been reported to the police.
“We are currently in Yola and have reached out to the Adamawa Police Command. We’re waiting for further updates, but nothing concrete has come in yet,” the student leader said.
When contacted, spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, Yahaya Suleiman, confirmed awareness of the incident but clarified that the abduction occurred outside Adamawa’s jurisdiction.
“The abduction did not happen within Adamawa State. I recommend you contact the Benue State Police Command for more specific details,” he stated.
Suleiman added that security agencies across states are working together to ensure the safe return of the students.
“We are cooperating not just with other state commands but also with sister security agencies to make sure that anyone coming into Adamawa is safe and not harassed or intimidated,” he said. “Our officers are working closely with the Benue State Police Command on this case.”
As of the time of this report, attempts to reach the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, Anene Catherine, were unsuccessful. Calls and messages to her phone went unanswered.
