Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu once asked him to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), an offer he turned down.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Fayose said his respect and admiration for Tinubu has never been hidden, even during his time as governor.
“Nigerians know where I stand when it comes to politics and national issues,” Fayose said. “I recall clearly that the president invited me to join the APC, but I declined.”
He added that during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, he openly criticized the APC but maintained a respectful relationship with Tinubu.
“When I was governor, I visited Tinubu several times, including when he had a knee injury. I didn’t hide my support for him, even though Buhari was president then,” he said.
Fayose also addressed speculations about his political loyalty, citing his involvement in the G-5 group and reaffirming his long-standing political stance.
“When your kinsman wants to be president and he has the capacity, should you fight him or support him? I’ve always been consistent,” he stated.
He also noted that, for the first time in Ekiti’s history, all former governors are united in their support for the current administration.
