Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has affirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains a strong and united institution in the South-West, dismissing concerns over the emergence of a new political coalition.
Speaking with journalists on Friday after a meeting of the South-West PDP Caucus at the party’s regional secretariat in Ibadan, Makinde emphasized that the PDP is not threatened by talks of any coalition. According to him, the party’s leadership in the region is committed to staying together and addressing internal challenges constructively.
“The PDP in the South-West is united. We are working together, and the coalition people are not a threat to us,” the governor stated. “Who are the people forming this coalition? Most of them were once part of the PDP or the APC. What have they done differently? Have they changed or suddenly found something new to offer Nigerians? These are questions that must be asked.”
Using the PDP South-West Secretariat — the Soji Adagunodo House — as a metaphor, Makinde said the party would not abandon its structure because of challenges.
“If the roof of this building is leaking, do we, as leaders, run away to seek shelter elsewhere? No. We fix it. That’s what responsible leaders do — we confront issues head-on because we care about the people.”
He further assured that the PDP, as a longstanding political institution, has the capacity to resolve its internal issues and emerge stronger.
“We have our own mechanisms for addressing problems within the party, and I can assure you that when the time comes, we will handle them appropriately,” he concluded.
