Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has stated that he has no intention of contesting in the 2027 presidential election. In an interview with Arise News, El-Rufai made it clear that his focus is solely on ensuring the removal of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which he described as a “tragedy” and “evil.”
El-Rufai, who also served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, said he is willing to align with any political platform that can unite Nigerians to vote out the current leadership. According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party, has lost the trust of the people.
“We’ve done the polling. There’s a 91% disapproval rating for this administration nationwide—the worst in Nigeria’s history,” he said. “But Nigerians aren’t just angry. They’re looking for a credible alternative. What we need is unity—people setting aside personal ambition to offer the country a real choice.”
When asked whether he could set aside his own ambitions and work with other prominent political figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, or Rotimi Amaechi, El-Rufai reiterated that he has no presidential aspirations.
“You mentioned my name, but I have no ambition,” he said. “I feel a personal responsibility. I helped bring this administration into power, and now, at 65 and nearing retirement, I believe I should help remove what I see as a dangerous regime that could ruin Nigeria if not stopped.”
