President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security leadership, including the service chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to take decisive action against those responsible for the recent wave of deadly attacks in Benue State.
During a visit to the state on Wednesday in response to the renewed violence in the North-Central region, President Tinubu expressed strong concern over the rising death toll and lack of arrests.
Addressing security officials at a town hall meeting held at the Benue Government House in Makurdi, the President said, “Police, I hope your men are alert and acting on intelligence. Why haven’t there been any arrests? I expect those criminals to be apprehended.”
He also commended the efforts of security chiefs while urging them to intensify operations. “Christopher (referring to the Chief of Defence Staff), I appreciate your commitment. But we cannot afford fatigue. Oloyede and the Air Marshal, thank you, but we must remain vigilant. Let’s get those criminals off the streets.”
Calling for improved intelligence gathering, Tinubu urged the heads of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to enhance their information networks. “Retool your channels, gather solid intelligence — we must prevent this kind of tragedy from happening again,” he said.
