The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a notorious cult group during a targeted operation in the Owode-Ikorodu area.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects — Adenuga Tosin, Jesutofunmi Ezekiel, and Adeniji Juwon — were apprehended following a credible intelligence report that led officers to their hideout.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists — Adenuga Tosin, Jesutofunmi Ezekiel, and Adeniji Juwon — during an intelligence-led tactical operation along the Owode-Ikorodu axis. The suspects were found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and six live cartridges,” Hundeyin stated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are active members of a cult group known for its involvement in violent crimes and illegal arms trafficking across Lagos State. They are believed to play key roles in the movement and distribution of firearms, posing a significant threat to public safety.
CSP Hundeyin further noted that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang. Upon completion of the investigation, the suspects will be charged to court in line with due legal procedures.
The arrests come amid rising concerns about cult-related violence in the Ikorodu area. Earlier in May, suspected cultists reportedly shot and killed a popular shawarma vendor named Benjamin in Ebute-Ipakodo. Witnesses said the victim was attending to customers when two assailants approached him and opened fire at close range in what is believed to be part of an ongoing gang rivalry.
The police have reiterated their commitment to tackling cultism and restoring safety in communities affected by gang violence.
