Inter Miami stars and longtime friends Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez have launched a new football venture with the creation of Deportivo LSM, a fourth-tier Division D club in Uruguay. The pair, who first forged their bond at FC Barcelona and now continue to play together in MLS, revealed the news through a joint announcement on social media.
The club’s name, Deportivo LSM, reflects the initials of the football legends, symbolizing their deep connection both on and off the pitch.
“Today, I want to give back to Uruguayan football—the game I grew up with and deeply love,” said a visibly moved Suárez. “With this club, we want to offer young people the chance to grow with the right tools and opportunities. Entering the AUF system is a huge and exciting step for me and my family, and we truly believe in this project.”
Messi echoed the sentiment, highlighting the lifelong friendship behind the initiative. “This dream doesn’t stop here. We’re sharing it with our families and closest friends,” he said. “Luis and I have been through so much together—from our early days to the top of the sport. This project lets us keep sharing our vision of football, just like we always have.”
Deportivo LSM will be based at the Luis Suárez Complex, a nearly 20-acre facility that includes a stadium with synthetic turf and seating for 1,400 spectators, as well as a 7-a-side pitch with room for 620 fans.
The club marks a new chapter for both players as they transition from global football icons to grassroots pioneers in their beloved sport.
