Benin Court Remands Abubakar Musa for Alleged Conversion of 300,000 Euros
Justice Williams Aziegbemhin of the Benin High Court has remanded Abubakar Musa in police custody for allegedly diverting 300,000 euros to his personal use.
The judge ordered that Musa be held by the Benin police command for an initial 14-day period, pending the completion of ongoing investigations.
During the court session, Police Prosecutor Mr. Polycap Odion informed the judge that Musa, a self-identified “Bureau De Change” operator, had received 500,000 euros from a client with instructions to deliver it to her family in Benin. However, Odion claimed that Musa only provided 200,000 euros and withheld the remaining 300,000 euros.
Odion explained that the investigation is still ongoing and requested that Musa be remanded in custody to allow for a thorough investigation.
The prosecutor’s request was supported by the relevant provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of the State 2016, particularly Sections 293, 294, and 296(1). He argued that remanding the defendant would enable the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation.
Justice Aziegbemhin granted the motion as requested and adjourned the case to May 19 for further hearing.
