The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three individuals suspected of armed robbery and cult activities along the Calabar-Itu Road. The suspects were apprehended following a targeted operation based on credible intelligence.
According to a statement released in Uyo on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, officers acted swiftly to prevent an impending cult clash in the area.
“Intelligence revealed that two notorious gang leaders, known for terrorising the Calabar-Itu axis, were hiding at a guest house in Ntak Inyang. On May 1 at about 5:00 a.m., surveillance teams raided the location,” the statement said.
The suspects were identified as Joseph Edet from Akon Itam, Ekon Isaiah from Ibiaku Uruan—both confirmed members of the Kuklux Klan secret cult—and a female companion, Esther Otobong Edem.
During the operation, police recovered a locally made pistol, a battle axe, a hammer, a bottle with a suspected charm, two torchlights, two mobile phones, and a black bag containing various items.
DSP John confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion.
