Former presidential aide Doyin Okupe has passed away at the age of 72. His family confirmed his death to Channels Television on Friday, stating that he died in the early hours of the morning.
Okupe, a medical doctor from Ogun State, had a long and distinguished career in politics and healthcare. He served as a Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012 and later worked as the Director-General of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign for the 2023 election.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun paid tribute to Okupe, describing his death as a “personal loss.” Abiodun praised Okupe’s contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, noting that he played a significant role in the country’s resistance to military rule.
