The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called for a thorough investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The allegations were made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who accused Akpabio of harassment after an altercation over seating arrangements.
In a statement, ACF spokesperson Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba expressed concern over the allegations, stating that they have negative implications for the national and international image of the senate.
The forum called for an independent and transparent investigation into the matter.
However, Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has dismissed the allegations as false and baseless. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki had called for Akpabio to subject himself to an investigation, but Nwebonyi argued that Saraki’s appeal was misplaced.
Other reactions have trailed the allegations, with some calling for Akpabio to step aside and clear his name.
A civil rights activist and lawyer, Madubuachi Idam, has called for a commission of inquiry to probe the allegations.
