Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pledged a thorough and transparent investigation into the death of Abubakar Lawal, a Nigerian footballer who played for Vipers Football Club in Uganda.
Lawal, a former Nigerian Under-20 international footballer and final-year Business Administration student at Cavendish University, tragically passed away.
The Ministry, led by Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, expressed deep sorrow over Lawal’s death and extended condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and the Nigerian football community.
Tuggar emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring a thorough investigation, including an autopsy, to determine the cause of Lawal’s death.
The Nigerian government has been in contact with the Nigerian High Commission in Kampala, Uganda, which is working with local authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding Lawal’s death.
The Ministry has also directed the High Commission to provide consular support to Lawal’s family and ensure that justice is served.
Tuggar urged Nigerians to remain calm and refrain from speculation that could hinder the investigation.
He also expressed confidence in Uganda’s authorities to handle the matter with seriousness and sensitivity, given the strong bilateral relations between the two countries.
