The Enugu State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against crime, arresting six armed robbery suspects and recovering a cache of firearms and stolen goods in Nsukka.
The successful operation was carried out by operatives from the Nsukka Area Command, in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
Recovered Items:
– Three locally-made pistols
– A revolver
– Two live cartridges
– Three motorcycles allegedly stolen from victims
– Substances suspected to be Indian hemp
– Plastic bottles used for consuming methamphetamine (Mkpụrụ Mmiri)
The police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that one of the suspects led the police to Obollo-Afor in Udenu Local Council, where individuals suspected of receiving stolen motorcycles were apprehended on February 6.
In a separate development, the police are investigating the sudden death of Mr. Ugwu Nnaemeka, who collapsed while visiting the Nsukka Area Command Headquarters on February 7.
The police have dismissed allegations that the deceased was arrested, harassed, or tortured in custody, emphasizing that Mr. Nnaemeka was neither detained nor mistreated.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has extended condolences to the deceased’s family and directed the Deputy Commissioner of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
